Summary of Crab Facts
Biomass: A research made on the water creatures recorded that by 2017 the population growth of the crabs had grown from the intended 215 million to about 254 million crabs in the water. To the surprise of the researchers, they even went ahead and realized that a significant number of the population was made of the female species and a small number was made of the male species. The number was a bit higher than the expected turn out.
Biological Reference Points: A reference to support this fact is the records from NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office, and the Chesapeake Bay blue crab, institutions that are well known for their research in the sea creators that they conduct every three to seven years a project they have been doing since back in the year 1992.
A recent assessment was completed back in the year 2011, that was based on the idea of increasing the total population of the fish. The assessment later turned out to be quite successful and even better than expected by the institutions which led to great growth as recorded lately. The assessment made in 2011 has been registered down to be as a form of the reference sample to be used in later research, check it out!
Fishing and habitat: Harvesting of a crab is quite easy as long as you have the basic knowledge on how to do it. You do not have to have the necessary equipment to get the desired crabs; but if you are in a position to access them the better. Crabs come in season, an essential factor you need to know too. And between the two species; male and female, the female tends to be easy to catch as they are usually on the higher levels of the water and even on the shores, but the male species are found deep in the water.
Some countries are well known for crash harvesting. They do the harvesting either commercially or for recreational purpose only. Majority purpose though is for commercial use as they are considered to be an excellent source of income. You should be careful when looking for the crabs at the seasons where they tend to be many, as they tend to be extinct in areas with a much ample cover.
By-catch: In the process of harvesting a crab there are fish or turtles that might be caught up. These are known as by-catch. There are water mammals that are in most cases trapped in the crab traps that include Perch, diamondback terrapins and even the Atlantic croaker. Check this homepage for more info!
